Microsoft and Nokia Join Forces: Can They Challenge Leading Smartphones?

Nokia Microsoft PartnershipOn February 10 2011 and a couple of days after Nokia’s CEO revealed in an internal memo that the company is a crossroads and that a new smartphone strategy is necessary, Microsoft and Nokia announced plans for a broad strategic partnership. The partnership that makes Windows Phone 7 Nokia’s primary smartphone platform, and also extends into many other Microsoft services such as Bing, Xbox Live and Office should result in significant benefits for consumers, developers, mobile operators and businesses around the world.

Nokia and Microsoft intend to jointly create market-leading mobile products and services designed to offer consumers, operators and developers unrivalled choice and opportunity. As each company would focus on its core competencies, the partnership would create the opportunity for rapid time to market execution. Additionally, Nokia and Microsoft plan to work together to integrate key assets and create completely new service offerings, while extending established products and services to new markets.
